Remake Yourself Via Psychology
by David M. Tyler
Psychology is deeply committed to the idea human nature is not fixed. With the proper psychological techniques you can remake yourself. This is what humanistic psychology is all about. It is fine-tuning men to make them better. To help them grow and realize their potential, worth and genuine or real self. It is man remaking himself in his own image. The truth is it is Satan remaking man in his image.
Remake Yourself & Control Your Own Destiny
Since the fall man’s goal is to take the place of God and control of his own destiny. The philosopher Jean Paul Sartre said, “man is the being who wants to be God.”[i] He believed man is not born ready made with his nature intact but makes himself.
The philosopher Jose Ortega believed that man was not a finished product. Human life is a project of moving toward one’s potential and creating himself.[ii] It is psychology’s idea of “becoming.”
Man’s desire to remake himself has never been more prevalent than in our scientific advanced generation. Bioengineering is said to be a significant factor to the future health and progress of the human race. Through bioengineering mankind can realize his potential and fully master and control nature and himself.
The human-potential movement grew out of the psychology of Albert Maslow. It became popular in the 1960s and 1970s and spawned a plethora of self-improvement groups. The Human Potential Movement taught that through the development of human potential people could experience personal transformation. Man transforms himself as opposed to God through His Word, the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
Deceived By the Devil
These “freethinkers”, who do not believe the Bible, have a religion of their own. They are religious in their readiness and willingness to believe anything. They believe in any delusion that exalts man. You will never find anyone so ready to be led astray as the man who is wise in own eyes and says that he cannot be led astray. A man who says he does not believe in God is a man that believes in anything. He is the most gullible creature alive. He is blinded by Satan.
Satan has led mankind in an aggressive campaign of remaking himself. Man thinks he is acting on his own. It requires that men establish an independence from God. The terms so prevalent in psychology “authentic self, real self, real person, becoming a human being, a mature man and so on all imply man’s “growth” through therapy toward betterment. Psychology is one of the obstinate attempts to recover what was lost in the fall.
It is Impossible to Remake Yourself
The human struggle to become God is in us today. Nevertheless, the human condition has not changed. The theories and self-prescribed placebos of humanity’s most diligent thinkers have only succeeded to reinforce and substantiate man’s slavery to sin. However advanced and civilized we think we are has absolutely no bearing on the extent and intensity of our depravity. Man will never change his nature. He will never make himself better. He will never make himself a superior being, peaceful, selfless and less prone to sin. Apart from God’s grace, man is incompetent to glorify anything other than himself.
Jesus Christ is the only efficient and effective cure to mankind’s fallen condition. He restores man to become the person God intended.
